THE UNCOMMON SUCCESS STORY OF Michael Cammarata

At the time, being so young, everyone assumed that he was a “one hit wonder” entrepreneur. They assumed he had ‘beginner’s luck,” and perhaps not unfairly because one success does not guarantee all future successes. But once he proved that he could walk the walk – holding his own in strategy discussions, market projections, and forward-thinking visions, eyebrows raised quickly. The biggest lesson he had learned is to be confident and clear in his vision. That undeniable assurance in himself and the product/person/idea can make all the difference in personal and business growth.

As an Investor and entrepreneur, Michael Cammarata thinks outside the box, look beyond “what’s now” and start to think “what’s next.” Be two, or better yet, three steps ahead.

Secondly, a lot of entrepreneurs think they, and they alone, know what’s best for their customers without asking them. Especially now, it’s so easy to engage with core consumers for direct feedback. At Schmidt’s Naturals, “we listen and respond to our customers in real time, which allows us to build deeper relationships”. There are companies that have missed this mark: for example, there are companies who didn’t address their customer pain point and essentially ignored them to their own detriment.

Michael Cammarata advice for someone who seeks to be an impact-driven entrepreneur but can’t figure it out:

Take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself, “What do I care about and how will I be remembered?” It’s not enough anymore to just be a good business person, or smart entrepreneur. Looking back, even from a young age I used to garden and help my family grow the fruits and veggies we ate, which I now credit to my passion for sustainable living and products, ultimately investing in ways that we can take care of our planet. As an adult, I’ve become obsessed with health & wellness and innovative products. Converging these two passions has guided me in my entrepreneurial ventures and investments, especially in Schmidt’s. We’ve succeeded in creating natural products that actually work and have gone mainstream. With Unilever we are able to scale rapidly around the world and provide access to effective plant-based products to billions of people. As companies, we have a responsibility to magnify the voice and demands of our customers. Most recently, Schmidt’s was a strong supporter of the CA Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act that passed. It’s these types of actions and initiatives that make the difference. It’s doubly rewarding to have a thriving business that people love while also making an impact on the world.
